The presence of congenital deviation (curvature) of the penis with a good erection does not allow you to start a sexual life, creating first mechanical and then psychological obstacles.
Congenital curvature of the penis is quite rare. J. Mettauer first scientifically described such a disease and proposed its surgical correction almost 160 years ago, in 1842. Distinguish as a congenital deviation of the penis, so acquired.
Causes of congenital deviation:
- asymmetry of the cavernous bodies;
- disproportion of cavernous bodies;
- urethral hypoplasia;
- hypoplasia of the fascia of the penis.
Congenital curvature of the penis develops as a result of an insufficient amount of sex hormones in the prenatal period or puberty in men, as well as due to changes in the sensitivity of tissues to them. During an erection, patients usually do not feel pain. However, unlike Peyronie’s disease, congenital deviation of the penis always contributes to the development of erectile deformity directed towards the defective cavernous body. Specialists also refer to a congenital short urethra as a congenital deviation.
The patient begins to notice the curvature of the penis, as a rule, during puberty (sometimes at 10-12 years old) – the angle of curvature (in any direction) is clearly visible during erections, sometimes it can reach up to 90 degrees. However, all patients maintain a good erection. Therefore, during a normal sexual life, the curvature of the penis creates certain difficulties in the performance of the act – they arise depending on the angle of deviation and the characteristic features of the structure of the patient’s reproductive organ.
For the purpose of treatment, an operation is performed, which consists in shortening the longer side of the penis. After the operation, patients remain under the supervision of a doctor in a hospital or outpatient.
